Springvale Terrace began operations as a moderate-income HUD project in the mid 1960s. Currenlty there are 156 independent living apartments available for seniors. Springvale Terrace received a $2.6 million grant from HUD to convert 36 apartments to assisted living and renovate much of the common living space. The project was completed in 2004 and allows residents who qualify for Medicaid assisted living to received such services.

Homewood and Springvale Terrace completed their merger in 2004, making this Homewood's first HUD community. The merger was a natural one as both organizations had their roots in the United Church of Christ and both enjoy much church involvement from local congregations.
